Hi! I’m Shawna, a mom of three who loves to blog, teach my kids about healthy eating, and teach others, such as yourself, how blog better and grow your own business. I’m the founder of stresslessbehealthy.com and learngrowblog.com.
My Blogging Journey
I started my first blog in December of 2016. Like many people who set out to blog, I started because I saw other bloggers income reports! Oh, and because I wanted to help moms eat healthier…’Living life: One tantrum and green smoothie at a time’ is my tagline for my other blog!
When I think back to starting, I think of how HUGE of a learning curve there was. I knew absolutely nothing about blogging when I started; I thought blogging was just some online diary type thing. Boy, was I wrong!
And, I didn’t get it right away, either. I feel like I have simply been failing forward on my blogging journey since I started. The best thing I did to learn to blog (and to grow my blogs) was following other bloggers who came before me, and investing in myself and my blogging education.
Fast forward three years and I’m finally seeing more than $100 or $200 a month from my blog. Which makes me so excited, and inspired me to start this blog; to help others who may be struggling figure out where they went wrong and help you do it right; to help those who want to start a blog of their own; and to help you narrow down which blogging resources (aka ebooks and ecourses) will actually help move the needle forward on your blog!
Now, if I have failed so many times, why should you listen to me?
Well, I know exactly what you shouldn’t do when it comes to growing a blog, and growing it quickly.
For example, don’t try to write about everything and anything you feel like and post it up on your site; your site will turn to chaos and Google doesn’t like that kind of chaos! (Although, Google won’t even acknowledge you for at least 6 months anyways.)
What you should do is plan your site out and stick to one topic until you run out of all possible ideas for that one specific topic, at least 10 or so posts, but the more the better!
Another thing you shouldn’t try to do, if you’re trying to grow your blog quickly, is to try to be unique. Yes, I know, you may have wanted to start a blog to have your voice heard and to share your uniqueness. And you can, you can absolutely have your personality and uniqueness show through your posts. Just don’t try to do something online that has never been done before; there’s probably a reason people aren’t doing it, and it’s probably because it doesn’t work!
So, how can I help you?
On this blog you’ll find posts on how to start a blog, free resources at the top of every page, and through out posts, in fact, you can sign up here to receive free weekly emails to help you on your blogging journey.
You’ll also find reviews of blogging resources (to help you not waste money on resources that suck, sorry, but some do!).
And, if you need help with optimizing for Pinterest, or are just completely lost with Pinterest, I offer Pinterest audits and more services to help you out in that aspect. I love Pinterest, and it’s such a valuable tool for us bloggers, it would be silly to not take advantage of all it can do for us, especially in the beginning stages of blogging, when it seems like Google won’t even look at us!
So, that’s me and a bird eyes view of what you can expect from me and this site.
I want you to succeed with your blog, and I don’t want it to take you as long as it took me. Which is why I’m here and why I created this blog.
I’m not going to give you much fluff and tell you that you can blog about whatever you like and expect to make a living from that within the first couple of years…I did that, it doesn’t work too well!
I’m not going to tell you that you can live in your own little bubble in your own little corner of the internet because you’re an introvert like me and it drains you to be on social media. No, you need to network and connect with others to find success quickly.
I won’t sugar coat things. If I had a bad experience with a hosting company, or any other company, I’ll let you know. However, if I went through a resource from another blogger and it sucked, I probably won’t even write about it. I don’t want to bash on others here, plus, it may just be that one resource, not them or their other resources.
If you have a question that you want answered about blogging…
Email me at [email protected] and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, or I may write a whole post on the topic and let you know when it’s done.
But, please note, I am a mom of 3, including an infant, and I homeschool, so my working hours are at odd times and limited. Basically, since blogging allows me to extremely flexible with my work time, I take full advantage of that flexibility!
Hope you find the answers to your questions on here, and have a fun time blogging!
